Automatic transmission fluid (ATF)
Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is a specially developed lubricating and hydraulic oil that is used in automatic transmissions, dual clutch transmissions (DCT) and continuously variable transmissions (CVT). It ensures smooth power transmission, optimized shifting processes and protection of transmission components against wear and overheating.
Why is automatic transmission fluid (ATF) important?
A high-quality ATF transmission fluid ensures the performance and durability of the transmission. Modern automatic transmissions place high demands on the oil: it must withstand extreme pressure loads, high temperatures and chemical stresses without losing viscosity or lubricity. BASINOL ATF oils are precisely matched to these challenges and meet OEM approvals from leading manufacturers.
When should automatic transmission fluid be changed?
The change intervals vary depending on the vehicle type and manufacturer. As a rule, the ATF oil should be replaced between 60,000 and 120,000 km to ensure optimum shifting performance and transmission protection.
Can I top up the ATF oil myself?
Yes, but only with the exact type of ATF recommended by the manufacturer. The wrong oil can lead to shifting problems, loss of performance or damage to the transmission. Ideally, the oil should be changed at a specialist workshop.
Are there different ATF oils for different gearbox types?
Yes! ATF for classic automatic transmissions (e.g. Dexron, Mercon), CVT oils for continuously variable transmissions and DCT oils for dual clutch transmissions have specific properties. BASINOL offers ATF oils for all modern transmission systems.
