Base oil

Beschreibung

Base oil – the basis of every high-quality lubricant

Base oil is the main component of lubricants such as engine oils, gear oils or hydraulic oils. Depending on the formulation, it accounts for 70-90% of the total volume and has a decisive influence on the performance, temperature stability, viscosity and ageing resistance of an oil. The quality of the base oil therefore determines the performance and service life of a lubricant.

Relevance in the lubricant sector

Base oils are divided into five groups (API Group I-V), depending on the manufacturing process and chemical structure:

– Group I & II: Refined mineral oils

– Group III: Highly refined, semi-synthetic oils (often referred to as “HC synthesis”)

– Group IV: Fully synthetic PAO oils

– Group V: Special oils such as esters, silicone oils etc.

BASINOL lubricants are based on high-quality base oils from Group II, III and IV – ideal for modern engines, hybrid applications, industrial systems and demanding areas of use.

Fragen & Antworten (FAQ)

Why is the base oil used so important?
The base oil determines the basic stability of the lubricant: its viscosity, resistance to ageing, cold start behavior and lubricity. Only with a high-quality base oil can a lubricant function under pressure and temperature in the long term.

What role do additives play alongside the base oil?
Additives such as detergents, anti-wear agents and VI improvers are added to the base oil to create specific properties. The combination of base oil and additives turns a simple oil into a high-performance, high-tech lubricant.

Does BASINOL use high-quality base oils?
Yes – BASINOL uses high-quality, tested base oils, primarily from API Group III and IV. These are ideal for modern requirements such as hybrid vehicles, extended maintenance intervals and extreme temperature ranges.
